Electric vehicle chargers (OCPP)

Connect your EV chargers (wallboxes) to EzGYM and manage them from the app: see whether they are free or charging, the power and energy of each session, who charged (with their RFID card) and what each session costs at your price per kWh. You can also start, stop or unlock the cable remotely. It uses the open OCPP 1.6J protocol and is free, up to 20 chargers per account.

Which chargers work

Any charger with OCPP 1.6J (also listed as "OCPP 1.6 JSON" or "OCPP WebSocket"): Feyree, Besen, Wallbox, Huawei, ABB, WEG and most wallboxes with an app that let you choose the OCPP server. The datasheet or the manual says so.

{warning} Chargers that only work with the manufacturer's cloud (no "OCPP server" or "central system" option) cannot be connected.

1. Add the charger

  1. In the app, go to Menu → EV Chargers and tap Add charger.
  2. Enter a name (for example "Bay 1"), the location and the max power in kW.
  3. Price per kWh (optional): if you set it, each session shows its cost. Leave it empty if the charger is for your own fleet and you don't charge for it.
  4. Require RFID card or active member: when on, only active employees, customers without debt and sessions you start from the app can charge.
  5. Save. The app shows the OCPP connection details.

{primary} The password is shown only once: write it down. If you lose it, open the charger and tap New password.

2. Configure the charger

In the charger's app or web settings, find the OCPP menu (sometimes "Central System", "Backend" or "Server") and enter:

  • OCPP server URL: the OCPP URL (WSS) the app gave you, for example wss://ocpp.ezgym.net/ev4k2p9x7q1m. Complete, with the identifier at the end.
  • ChargeBox ID / Charge Point ID / Identity: the app's ChargeBox ID (the same one at the end of the URL, for example ev4k2p9x7q1m). Some chargers ask for it separately and add it to the URL themselves: in that case enter the URL without the identifier.
  • Password (Basic Auth / Authorization key): the password the app showed you, if the charger has that field. If it doesn't, it's not needed.
  • Version: OCPP 1.6J (JSON).

Save and reboot the charger. Within a minute or two the app shows it as Available, with its brand, model and firmware.

{warning} Use the URL that starts with wss://. If your charger doesn't accept wss:// (only ws://), write to us with the brand and model.

3. Charging

  • With an RFID card: the card of an active employee (their number on the attendance clock or their ID document) or of a customer (their ID document) is accepted. If Require RFID card is on, a customer with debt or an unknown card cannot charge.
  • From the app: on the charger page, tap Start charge. To finish, Stop charge. If the cable is stuck, Unlock cable; if the charger doesn't respond, Reboot.

{primary} Commands (start, stop, unlock, reboot) only show up while the charger is connected: if it's offline they wouldn't reach it.

While charging, the app shows the power, the energy and, if the car reports it, the battery percentage, live.

4. Sessions and energy of the month

In EV Chargers you see the month energy, the number of month sessions and how many chargers are charging now. Below, the recent charging sessions with who charged, when, the kWh and the cost. Each charger page shows its own sessions.

If it doesn't connect

  • Still "Waiting for connection": check that the URL is complete (with the identifier at the end) and that the charger has internet. Reboot the charger after saving.
  • Connects and drops: usually the password. Tap New password on the charger page and enter it again in the charger, or remove it from the charger if it doesn't need one.
  • "Offline": the charger lost internet or was turned off. It comes back by itself when it reconnects.

FAQ

Do I need my own OCPP server? No. EzGYM is the OCPP server (central system): the charger connects directly.

Does it cost anything? No, it's included, up to 20 chargers per account.

Can I charge drivers for it? The app calculates each session's cost at your price per kWh so you can invoice or deduct it. It doesn't charge the driver by itself.
